What We're Growing

I will have Type 1 clones available for purchase by July 2025. The first harvest of indoor flower should be ready by early September, outdoor flower and extracts in October. Follow our Instagram to watch them grow.

I'm offering untested selections from Sterling Arboretum’s Rootbeer Freeze and Maruf Kandahar crosses. These were chosen for structure, vigor, and standout stem rub—but I need your help evaluating flower quality and smoke. The goal is to identify keepers for future breeding projects focused on Type 2 strains.

Testers get access to rare genetics at a low cost, with credit given when final strains are released. You’ll be part of the selection process—and depending on how things go, you might even get some free smoke out of it.

Rootbeer Freeze

Rootbeer BX2 x Rootbeer BX2

Rootbeer Freeze is an in-cross of the Rootbeer BX2 line originally developed by Mean Gene of Freeborn Selections. The Rootbeer line traces back to older Northern California cultivars and includes Jaro in its background—a key component used to make Rootbeer BX1. Jaro contributed structure, resin traits, and stability to the early Rootbeer work, helping shape the unique growth patterns and expressions that carried through to the BX2 generation.

This cross stays true to those traits, with broad-leaf plants, moderate stretch, and a solid, upright structure. Flower development tends to be dense with high trichome coverage and a greasy texture that makes it well-suited for solventless extraction.

Rootbeer Freeze has earned a place in hashmaking circles for its resin quality.

It produces heads that separate cleanly and retain their integrity in both fresh frozen and dry sift. It’s been used in winning entries at events like The Ego Clash and continues to see interest from extractors looking for something with both performance and lineage depth.

Afghan Landrace

Maruf Kandahar is a traditional Afghan landrace collected from the Maruf District in Kandahar Province, near the Pakistan border. This region has a long history of cannabis cultivation, with plants selected over generations for resin content, drought resistance, and adaptability to harsh terrain. The line produces broadleaf, hash-type plants with thick stems, dense flower set, and a growth style suited to dry climates and minimal inputs.

Aromas in this population are diverse but often intense. Many growers report strong, animalic terpene profiles—particularly notes of rotting flesh, fermented fruit, and musk. Sterling Arboretum has also documented sharpie-marker and chemical expressions within their work using this line, adding another layer to its already complex aromatic range.

Plants typically flower in 8 to 11 weeks depending on conditions and expression. Maruf Kandahar is a useful tool for breeders interested in working with traditional hash plant traits—especially when aiming for structural hardiness, resin production, and unique terpene profiles that break from modern trends.
